An over-used but unfortunately still common metaphor describing a rare chain of circumstances that result in a catastrophic event.
An example:
‘Reduced production numbers, a lack of clear policy by oil producers and the cancellation of storage leases have combined to create a perfect storm that could see the oil price dip below $50 a barrel.’
